Daily Habits Around the World

We all go through the same motions every day — staring at screens, drinking coffee, clocking in and out, sleeping, and taking (or not taking) time off. What's surprising is how differently the world does all of this. South Africans spend twice as long on screens as the Japanese. Finns drink four times more coffee than Indians. Americans work more hours than the Dutch but take far fewer vacation days.

normalornot.net uses data from DataReportal, the OECD, the International Labour Organization, and other trusted sources to put your daily habits into a global context. All comparisons are for entertainment and general information — not medical or professional advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is normalornot.net?
An interactive tool that lets you compare five daily habits — screen time, coffee, sleep, vacation days, and working hours — with data from 30 countries. Set your value, hit the button, and see where you stand globally.
Where does the data come from?
DataReportal for screen time, the OECD and ILO for working hours and vacation, the International Coffee Organization and Statista for coffee, and the Sleep Foundation and academic research for sleep. We only include countries with reliable, publicly available data.
Do you store any of my data?
No. Everything happens in your browser. We never send your inputs to any server, and we don't track individual results. The only thing stored locally is your cookie preference.
How accurate is the percentile?
The percentile is calculated using a normal distribution across our dataset of 30 countries. It shows roughly where you fall relative to that sample — it's a useful comparison, not a scientific measurement.
Why only 30 countries?
We chose countries where reliable, comparable data exists across all five topics. Too many countries lack consistent reporting, and including unreliable data would skew the comparisons.
Can I suggest a new topic?
We're always thinking about what to add next. Alcohol consumption, exercise frequency, and commute times are on the list. Check back for updates.
